LIMERICK GC will host the inaugural sponsored Irish Professional Footballers’ Benevolent Association (IPFBA) Golf Classic on September 27.

At its launch, legends John Giles, Eoin Hand and Niall Quinn were announced as patrons of the IPFBA.

Past local heroes Pat Nolan, Brendan Storan, Ray O’Halloran, Micko O’Donnell, Johnny Walsh and Mike O’Brien are the host committee.

The target is to raise €10,000.

Mayor John Moran said: “It is great that people are coming to the Golf Classic here in Limerick from all over the country, for what is a really important cause. Players whom we have looked up to as heroes may be the ones who now need help.”
