THE Irish Blood Transfusion Service is holding a donation clinic in Newport Community Centre on Wednesday September 4.

The open clinic will be held from 4.50pm to 8.10pm, with the service says it is seeking up to 15,000 new donors in 2024 to ensure the stability of the national blood supply.

The demand for blood is constant and on any given day 200 patients receive transfusions in Irish hospitals, they said.

New D-negative blood types – that is A, B, and O negative (the Universal blood group) – are especially sought after.

New donors are welcome at all clinics, organisers said.
