Brazilian celebration to bring summer at the Crescent to a close

The Crescent at the top of O'Connell Street has been closed to traffic for the month of August.

LIMERICK’S Brazilian community will once again fill the city with colour and samba sounds this weekend as they take to the Crescent for a multi-cultural celebration.

The hosts of Brazilian Day Limerick will bring a carnival performance to Limerick’s Georgian quarter tonight (Friday, August 30) at 7pm.

The carnival celebration will take place by the Daniel O’Connell monument at the Crescent, where impromptu events have been springing up across the last month, and will bring the traditional summer months to a close.

Lively Brazilian rhythms and dance performances will feature as part of the event, adding a splash of carnival magic to Limerick.

The event comes as part of Mayor John Moran’s planned closure of the Crescent for the month of August for use as a community space.
