Gardaí seize almost €100,000 in cash and drugs along with firearm in County Limerick

GARDAÍ seized close to €100,000 in drugs and cash in County Limerick this past Wednesday (August 28) as part of an ongoing investigation into criminal activity in the Mid West.

According to a statement from An Garda Síochána, €69,000 in cash, €10,000 worth of cannabis, and a further €18,550 in suspected cocaine was seized after planned searches were carried out at a residence and farming properties in the Crecora area of County Limerick.

The planned raids took place on Wednesday of this week (August 28), with Gardaí also seizing a firearm, a silencer, and a number of drug related paraphernalia and tools, including cocaine presses, vacuum packers, and scales. A money counter and a number of mobile phones were also seized.

Gardaí confirmed that a man in his 40s was arrested at one of the locations of Wednesday’s raids and detained under the Criminal Justice Act.

A Garda spokesman said that the man has since been released with a file to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The operation was led by the Limerick Divisional Drugs Unit, with assistance from the Armed Support Unit, and the Divisional Search Team.

The Garda spokesman confirmed that the seized drugs and firearm are to be subject to forensic examination following the raids.

He added that “investigations are ongoing”.

The raids were carried out under Operation Tara, a nationwide anti-drugs campaign focusing on disrupting, dismantling, and prosecuting drug trafficking networks.
