Sinn Féin confirm Maurice Quinlivan as a General Election candidate for Limerick City

SINN Féin TD Maurice Quinlivan, who topped the polls in the last general election, has been again selected to contest the next general election for Sinn Féin in Limerick City.

Deputy Quinlivan was selected unopposed and will contest the next general election. The Limerick politician was first elected to the Dáil in 2016 and went on to top the poll in the 2020 General Election.

Deputy Quinlivan says he is honoured to be selected by his party to contest the next General Election for Sinn Féin in Limerick City.

Speaking following his selection, Deputy Quinlivan stated: “I want to thank the local Sinn Féin organisation in Limerick for their support and I look forward to the General Election campaign ahead. Limerick, despite our challenges, is a fantastic place to live and work and it has been the privilege of my life to have represented the people of Limerick and I hope to continue doing so.”

He continued: “There remain many challenges facing our county including the housing crisis, the cost of living and the failures at our main hospital, UHL.

“The housing crisis in Limerick continues to impact the lives of many who can neither afford to purchase or rent a home. The challenges facing the health service in Limerick must be addressed and it is my hope that I can continue to advocate for change on behalf of the people of Limerick.

“We cannot continue to have the largest hospital in the Mid-West operate in such a dysfunctional and dangerous manner. The year 2024 is on course to exceed the more than 21,000 people treated on trolleys and hospital corridors in 2023.”

“The people of Limerick City deserve much better than that. I hope to have the opportunity to continue to fight their corner after the next General Election, and to see our communities thrive and reach their full potential.

“We will continue to work hard. I am very grateful for the Sinn Féin nomination, and I look forward to the campaign ahead.”

The next election, Qunlivan suggests, will be a choice between a Fianna Fáil or Fine Gael led government or electing a Sinn Féin led government.

“A government that doesn’t see these challenges as insurmountable, a government that will put workers and families first.”
