Irishtown Heritage Fest to revive Old Clare Street this weekend

LIMERICK City and County Council are inviting the public to join them in a street party this weekend.

Irishtown Heritage Fest will street party on Old Clare Street this coming Sunday (August 25), as part of National Heritage Week and GreenPlace/URBACT project.

Residents of the area and members of the general public are invited along to view exciting plans for the area, as well as to celebrate the Medieval Walls of Limerick.

Members of the Garryowen branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann will be on hand to provide musical entertainment, while teachers will teach partygoers the set dance ‘The Walls of Limerick’, culminating in a line of dancers along Old Clare Street.

People are advised that Old Clare Street will be closed to traffic for the duration of the street party.

The GreenPlace/URBACT project aims to restore “forgotten” areas in out cities and counties which, in collaboration with 10 partners from Europe, aims to introduce greenery as a key factor limiting climate change and to renovate and make unused urban areas available and appealing to residents.

The Irishtown Heritage Fest will take place on Sunday, August 25, from 2pm to 5pm.
