A LONG-standing boil water notice affecting County Limerick has today (Thursday) been lifted, the Limerick Post has learned.

The Foynes/Shannon Estuary Public Water Supply was issued with a boil water notice in May of last year due to cryptosporidium being detected in the water.

Now, Uisce Éireann have announced that the boil water notice has been lifted with immediate effect.

Remedial works have taken place on the water supply, and following consultation with the HSE, the utility have confirmed that the boil water notice can now be lifted.

Consumers on the supply can now resume normal use of the water supply for drinking, food preparation and brushing teeth.

Limerick Minister of State Niall Collins told the Limerick Post that the lifting of the notice was a long time coming.

“A lot of investment has gone into this, and it will come as a relief to thousands of people on this supply,” Minister Collins said.

Uisce Éireann has acknowledged the patience, cooperation and assistance of the general public throughout the duration of the boil water notice, and regrets any inconvenience caused to householders and businesses wile the boil water notice was in place.

Uisce Éireann say they will continue to work with the HSE’s Water Local Liaison Group to review ongoing process control, monitoring and resting of the drinking water supply.
