CLONBRIEN Treaty became the fastest ever winner of the Irish St. Leger when easing to a 29.28 seconds victory in Saturday’s Final at Limerick Greyhound Stadium.

It was a back-to-back win for Treaty, owned in Athlacca by the Murphy family and trained in Golden, county Tipperary by Graham Holland.

The last dog to achieve this feat was Time Up Please for trainer Ger McKenna (Tipperary) in the early 1970s.

It will go down as one of the best Irish St Leger finals of all time with this title being Treaty’s fourth classic success, a wonderful achievement.

Also on the night, Pat and Emma Buckley (Doon) sent out Ower Cracker to set a new 600 yard track record, 32.04 seconds.

Sarah Kinsella, spokesperson for Greyhound Racing Ireland, said: “Wow. I have run out of superlatives for Clonbrien Treaty. To win back-to-back titles is an astounding achievement but to win it in the fastest ever time recorded is the icing on top.

“Congratulations to trainer Graham, owners James and Muireann, and all the connections. It was a special night at Limerick. Massive thanks to our sponsors WillWeGo.com.”
