LOCAL jockeys Chris Hayes, Shanagolden, and Ballingarry’s Billy Lee were the big recent weekend winners at Cork.
Hayes landed the feature Group 3 Irish Stallion Farms EBF Give Thanks Stakes on the Dermot Weld-trained Shamida.
A 4/1 shot, she led passing the two-furlong pole and gamely held Aidan O’Brien’s 17/2 chance Mother Nature by half a length.
The trainer and jockey followed up straight away as Romzina, another owned and bred by HH Aga Khan, took the 10-furlong maiden by the same margin.
Leading inside the final furlong, she saw off another O’Brien runner, the 10/1 shot North Africa, at odds of 5/2 joint-favourite.
Earlier on the card, Lee and Paddy Twomey combined to win the Listed Irish Stallion Farms EBF Platinum Stakes with Super Sox.
A maiden winner at the Curragh on Guineas weekend in May, the three-year-old was having her first start since then and made light of the absence to score by a length and three-parts from the Ross O’Sullivan-trained Dance Night Andday at odds of 11/4 joint-favourite.
