BUSINESESS in Adare are leading the way in sustainability by phasing out single-use cups in favour of a new reusable cup rental scheme.

The green initiative is part of the broader efforts of the Adare Green Business Hub, which had its grand opening last week as the first of its kind in Limerick.

The Adare Green Hub is designed to promote a community-driven approach to sustainability, particularly focusing on the circular economy and climate action.

The hub will provide resources and support to local businesses looking to implement more sustainable waste management practices and improve on waste separation using the three-bin waste system.

It was launched last week by Limerick City and County Council’s Environment and Climate Action department, in partnership with the My Waste team, Adare Tidy Towns, and the Adare business community.

Business owners across Adare are encouraged to book one-on-one sessions in their business or at the new green hub with a waste advisor from Limerick City and County Council.

During these sessions, advisors will discuss simple and effective changes that can enhance waste segregation and recycling efforts, further driving the village’s commitment to sustainability.

Mayor of Limerick John Moran welcomed the initiative saying that “the tremendous community-led approach behind creating this project will no doubt improve sustainability” in Adare.

“In this modern world, Ireland is moving away from the traditional  ‘take-make-use-dispose’ model towards a ‘circular economy’ regenerative growth model where resources are reused or recycled as much as possible and waste is minimised.”
