A FUN and film filled weekend in the Treaty City is shaping up, with screenings to satisfy any culture vulture.

Film Track, a three-day festival featuring arthouse screenings and talks celebrating independent filmmaking, will debut in Limerick from August 23 to 25.

Run by Innovate Limerick/Film in Limerick, in partnership with Wired FM and the Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board, Film Track aims to bring a taste of indie film to Shannonside.

Among the screenings across the Film Track weekend will be locally filmed sci-fi thrillen Woken (starring Erin Kellyman and Maxine Peake) and documentary Graceless Age: The Ballad of John Murry, follwed by a talk from the acclaimed US musician himself and director Sarah Share.

John Murray will also perform live the same night at the Record Room on Catherine Street.

A highlight for many aspiring Treaty filmmakers will be the One-Shot Filmmaking Competition, which will see 10 teams take to the city streets across the weekend to film a series of one-shot miniature masterpieces.

The festival will run concurrent with Féile Na Gréine, an annual festival of emerging and experimental music founded and run by local Limerick musicians.

Film in Limerick regional manager Paul C Ryan said the festival will provide “a summer film experience with a difference, welcoming all aspiring and experienced filmmakers and musicians to the city for three days of film and music fun”.

A full rundown of events throughout the festival, along with applications for the One-Shot competition, can be found on filmtrack.ie.
