GARDAÍ in Limerick are investigating after a van was set alight outside a family home in a third incident of anti-social behaviour in Kilfinane in recent times.

This past Saturday (August 17), Gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene of a vehicle fire behind a family home in Kilfinane at around 4.50pm.

This follows a fire at the Maple Ballroom in the town as well as an incident of vandalism at the Old Convent in recent weeks.

This weekend’s van fire was said by local residents to be “very upsetting for the family” whose house the fire happened outside, and a post on social media from a community group asked for people in the area to be vigilant and call out any incidents of anti-social behaviour they witness, adding that such incidents in the area are “getting out of control”.

A Garda spokeswoman confirmed to the Limerick Post that Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the blaze on Saturday.

“Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fire outside a property in Kilfinane, County Limerick, which occurred on Saturday 17th August 2024 at approximately 4.50pm,” a Garda spokeswoman said.

Investigations are ongoing, the spokeswoman said.

In the aftermath of the fire, a post on the Kilfinane Community Council’s Facebook page called for locals to be vigilant.

“We are asking people if you have any information in relation to any of the incidents to please contact the guards in Bruff,” the post said.

“Can you all be vigilant in the community going forward and report any concerns as these incidents are getting out of control. It is very disappointing to see this happening in our community and it has to stop.”
