At the launch of the Castletroy Senior Scratch Cup were sponsor Fergal Costello, Captain David O'Driscoll and President Kevin Argue.

CASTLETROY Golf Club will host its Senior Scratch Cup on Saturday August 31.

First played in 1948, the Cup (for the Major HK Murray Trophy) is one of the oldest and most prestigious Scratch Cups in Ireland.

The 2023 winner was Connacht Interprovincial and former Arnold Palmer Cup golfer David Kitt.

Recent champions include 2023 Irish Close champion, Rob Moran, and former South of Ireland and Amateur Champion, James Sugrue.

The quality of former champions is exemplified by a unique roll of honour, including Walker Cup representatives John Burke, Jimmy Bruen, Max McCready, JB Carr, Tom Craddock, David Sheahan, and Sugrue, as well as future professional stars, including Des Smyth.
