Mungret St Paul’s enjoy another win in SFC

NEWCOMERS Mungret St Paul’s are the surprise packets of the Limerick Senior Football Championship.

Only promoted to the top tier following the capture of the Intermediate title last season, Kevin O’Hagan’s charges are now three wins from as many outings in pursuit of an historic first senior crown.

At the weekend, the Group One table toppers secured a late, late 2-8 to 0-11 win over city rivals Monaleen at Pairc de Paor (Old Christians Grounds) Rathbane.

The decesive score in stoppage-time came courtesy of a penalty from captain John Hutton.

Elsewhere, Adare were deserving 2-10 to 0-9 winners over Ballylanders at Kilmallock’s Fitzgerald Park. The goals came through Shane O’Connor and Joe Sweeney.

In a surprise at Clarina, Na Piarsaigh defeated previoulsy unbeaten St Kieran’s, 2-11 to 1-11.

Dylan Cronin greatly impressed for the victors with a haul of 1-7.

In Group Two, Alan O’Mahony managed Oola held holders Newcastle West to a draw, 0-9 points apiece.

The complete underdogs kicked three points late-on, from dual players Chris Thomas and Mikey O’Brien, along with Shane O’Grady, to secure a share of the spoils.

Also in this section, Fr Casey’s – for whom Eliah O’Riordan (1-3) and Adrian Enright (0-4) breezed past Balysteen, 3-14 to 0-7, in Newcastle West and Galtee Gaels remain unbeaten following a runaway 4-11 to 0-11 defeat of Kildimo-Pallaskenry at Pallasgreen.
