Free admission to heritage sites with Local Link services

Heritage sites in Limerick will have free admission for anyone who takes a Local Link bus during Heritage Week.

LIMERICK people are being encouraged to get out and see the best Ireland has to offer this National Heritage Week.

As part of the heritage offering this year, the Office of Public Works (OPW) has teamed up with Transport for Ireland (TFI) to offer free admission to heritage sites for people who use Local Link buses.

The Local Links to the Past scheme will see participating heritage sites offer free admission to those who use the Local Link service across heritage week (August 19 to 23).

The TFI Local Link service is part of the Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan, a major national transport initiative developed and funded by the National Transport Authority, with the aim of increasing connectivity and sustainable methods of travel, particularly for people outside major urban areas.

OPW Minister of State and Limerick TD Kieran O’Donnell said that the partnership aims to highlight the Local Link services, inviting people to visit “iconic sites in rural Ireland, including the Glendalough and Clonmacnoise Monastic Sites, Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery and Ionad an Bhlascaoid – the Blasket Centre”.

“This campaign underlines the OPW’s commitment to advancing sustainable solutions,” the Limerick Minister said.

Minister for the Department of Transport Eamon Ryan added that “National Heritage Week is an opportunity for us all to connect with the historic sites that have shaped Ireland’s past. There is no better way to shape Ireland’s future than by choosing sustainable transport methods.”
