Young woman dies two weeks after tragic County Limerick crash

A YOUNG woman who was critically injured in a serious single-car crash in County Limerick late last month has passed away.

Gardaí confirmed the young woman’s tragic death this Tuesday morning, issuing a further appeal to the public for information or any witnesses to the crash, which took place on the evening of July 30 on the R503 Limerick-Newport Road in the Drominboy, Lisnagry area.

The young woman, described by Gardaí as being in her 20s, was a passenger in what is believed to have been a Mercedes car, which was upturned on its roof in the July 30 crash.

Gardaí confirmed this Tuesday that the young woman passed away from her injuries on Sunday August 11.

It is understood the car she was a passenger in hit a wall and a pole before landing upturned on its roof.

It is also understood the young woman was trapped in the wreckage and had to be freed by fire crews using specialist cutting equipment.

She was rushed to Cork University Hospital for emergency treatment, along with the male driver of the car, also in his 20s. Both were treated for serious injuries at the scene by paramedics before being transferred to the Cork hospital.

The scene was attended by HSE paramedics and firefighters attached to Limerick City, Killaloe in County Clare, as well as Nenagh and Newport in County Tipperary.

This Tuesday, confirming the young woman’s tragic death, Gardaí issued a fresh appeal for witnesses or individuals who may have any information relating to the crash to come forward.

Gardaí are especially interested in speaking to “road users with camera footage (including dashcam) who were traveling on the R503 road near Lisngry, County Limerick, on Tuesday 30th July 2024, between 7.45pm and 8.45pm”.
