GARRYSPILLANE and Newcastle West were the early pace setters in the Limerick Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship.

Both are two wins from as many starts.

The Bouncers were slender 2-11 to 1-16 victors against Blackrock at Fitzgerald Park, Kilmallock.

Captain Colin Ryan and Callum Sheehan were the goal scorers in this ultra-exciting tussle.

At Ballyagran’s Paddy Carroll Park, the Magpies preserved their early unbeaten record with a 1-20 to 0-17 victory over Glenroe. For the winners, the scores flowed through the likes of brothers Eoin and Brian Hurley, Ethan Hurley, along with the Hayes duo of Cathal and Con.

Elsewhere in GAA news, Limerick senior hurling manager John Kiely picked up a handy €1,000 at the weekend.

The welcome windfall came courtesy of an unlikely source, the Tipperary GAA Clubs Draw, which the Galbally man joined through his neighbouring club of Lattin-Cullen.

Galbally GAA have a Fun Weekend on Saturday and Sunday next, to include a bikeathon, auction, and tractor run.

In women’s GAA action, holders Monagea open the defence of their Limerick Ladies Senior Football Championship with a home tie against Dromcollogher-Broadford on Saturday (6pm).
