LED by the legendary Seán Kely, the 24th edition of the Tour de Munster Charity Cycle – which involves 100 amateurs – takes place this Thursday through to Sunday (August 8-11).

The 600km event starts and finishes in Cork, and will take in all counties across the province.

In the opening stage – Cork to Killaloe – the group will arrive (from Tipperary) to King John’s Castle on Thursday at around 5.50pm and depart 30 minutes later for Clare via Barry’s Cross, 6.35pm.

It aims to raise vital funds for the Munster branches of Down Syndrome Ireland (DSI), the 15th year on the trot in which DSI are the beneficiaries and to date it has benefitted to the tune of €5 million.

The vital funds raised have a significant impact on the lives and development of children and adults with Down syndrome across Munster.

Speaking ahead of the Tour, Michelle Coughlan, Chairperson of DSI (Limerick), said: “We are excitedly anticipating the Tour de Munster’s arrival in Limerick, where we will be cheering them all on.

“We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the dedicated cyclists as they finish their training for the 600 km journey across Munster. The funds raised from this event have been transformative, allowing the Limerick branch of Down Syndrome Ireland to offer essential therapies and support to our children and adults with Down syndrome.”
