Limerick Council advances plans for traffic calming measures on Wolfe Tone Street

Príomh-Chomhairleoir of LCCC, Cllr Dan McSweeney on Wolfe Tone Street.

LIMERICK City and County Council (LCCC) has confirmed its intention to commence designing a traffic calming scheme for Wolfe Tone Street following a number of requests from residents and public representatives.

Welcoming the news, Príomh-Chomhairleoir of LCCC, Cllr Dan McSweeney, pointed out that Wolfe Tone Street has seen a rise in car accidents in recent times, with a car overturning onto its side in late 2022 along the residential street.

“It is anticipated the plans will include traffic calming measures along the main stretch of Wolfe Tone Street. Once plans are drafted, Limerick City and County Council will carry out public consultation through a Section 38 process with local residents,” Cllr McSweeney told the Limerick Post.

“Overall, this is welcome news for the locality. This is an issue that residents have raised with me for many years and is something I continued to push over my last term.

“It is great to finally see progress on this issue and I look forward to continuing to work with Limerick City and County Council to ensure this project continues to advance as a matter of urgency before anyone is seriously injured,” he concluded.
