Brazilian woman living in Limerick dies after fall from 17-storey apartment in Vietnam holiday tragedy

LIMERICK’S vast South American community are in mourning after the tragic death of a Brazilian woman who had made the Treaty City her home.

Rosimeiry (Rosi) Franco, who had been living in Limerick for the past number of years, died after a tragic fall from a 17-storey apartment building while on holidays in the Vietnamese district of Thủ Đức.

The popular Brazilian woman worked as a sales and marketing specialist at local language school NED College, popular with South American learners in the city coming to Ireland to learn English and start a new life.

In the days since her death, the family of the 30-year-old, from Boa Vista in the Brazilian state of Roraima, have set up a GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign to help bring her remains home to her grieving family.

The campaign has so far raised over €15,000 of its €20,000 goal.

According to organisers, the fundraising push is to help “bring Rosi back to her family”, contributing to the costs of repatriation with long-haul transport from Ireland to São Paulo and onwards to Boa Vista.

Organisers said that “Rosi was a cherished part of our lives, always bringing joy and kindness to those around her. Her family, who live modestly and are facing significant financial challenges, desperately wish to have Rosi brought back home for a proper farewell.”

“Our hearts are deeply saddened by this loss, and we are committed to honouring Rosi’s memory by ensuring she is reunited with her family.”
