THREE males, who were allegedly involved in a collision with a Garda patrol car, are due in court this Tuesday morning, charged in connection with alleged dangerous driving and the “suspected theft” of a vehicle in Limerick two days ago, Gardaí have said.
Responding to a query from the Limerick Post about local reports of Gardaí pursuing a car through the Corbally area this past Sunday, the Garda Press Office replied that “Gardaí arrested five males following an incident of dangerous driving and suspected theft of a vehicle in the Castletroy area of Limerick on the evening of Sunday 4th August 2024”.
“During the course of responding to these incidents, an official Garda vehicle was involved in a collision with a vehicle driven by the suspected offenders. No injuries have been reported at this time,” the statement read.
“As part of the investigation into this incident, Gardaí arrested five males aged their teens and early 20s. All five were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda Station in Limerick City,” stated the Garda Press Office.
“One of the males has been released from custody pending referral to the youth diversion programme. Another of the males has been released from custody and a file will be prepared for the DPP.
“Three of these males have been charged and are due to appear before Ennis District Court this morning, Tuesday 6th August 2024.”
