ESB issues warning to Limerick swimmers

The ESB has issued a warning to the public about swimming at Ardnacrusha.

WITH continued good weather forecast by Met Éireann, the ESB has issued a warning to the public about the dangers of swimming in its reservoirs.

According to Martin Stronge, senior manager of hydro operations at ESB, the utility’s reservoirs “are not appropriate for swimming due to the risk of deep and fast-flowing waters, changing water levels, and uneven ground, which pose serious safety risks to members of the public”.

One such area outside Limerick City is the Ardnacrusha headrace and tailrace canal, which the ESB urged swimmers to avoid as the good weather continues.

“Remember to prioritise your safety and the safety of others by choosing safer swimming locations, such as swimming pools or beaches with designated lifeguards,” Mr Stronge concluded.
