AMONG the fancy-priced winners at Galway Races 2024 was Bessie Abott, which was steered home by Wesley Joyce of Moyross.

Joyce landed this surprise winner as he partnered the 50/1 shot to success in the seven-furlong median auction maiden for two-year-olds on day five of the Festival.

Trained for the Woodleigh Syndicate by Mick Mulvany, she lost a little ground to her rivals coming out of the stalls but came through to lead inside the final furlong and at the line had a comfortable two and a half lengths to spare over Joseph O’Brien’s 13/2 chance Raven Darkholme.

On the same evening , Chris Hayes, Shanagolden, landed the feature 12-furlong handicap on the Bill Durkan-trained Eagle’s Way.

In a thriller, the 8/1 chance made all the running and held on to beat the Michael Halford & Tracey Collins-trained Chally Chute by a short head in the colours of the Four D Partnership.
