Limerick artist drawing international attention at Chianciano Biennale

'Introspection': Artist Evan Healy hopes to leave an impression on Italian art lovers at the Chianciano Bienalle.

ONE young Limerick artist will be drawing the attention of art critics and appreciators internationally as his work is showcased at the Chianciano Biennale in Italy, kicking off this week.

Even Healy, a Limerick artist who has been making his name on the world stage in recent months, is numbered among 150 international contemporary artists from over 40 countries taking part in the prestigious arts festival.

Running from August 3 to 18 in Chianciano Terme in Tuscany, Italy, Chianciano Biennale has been attracting top international talent since 2009.

The Limerick artist will be showcasing his piece, titled ‘Introspection’, in his signature surreal style.

“It is an honor to be selected to exhibit my work at the Biennale this year, especially with many highly accomplished and skilled artists from around the world,” Evan told the Limerick Post.

The young artist says his signature “graphite and charcoal artwork can be categorised as a blend of classical realism and surrealism, with specific focus on the human condition in the modern world”.

“It is important for us to figure out our place in the modern world. We as a species are so far removed from the lifestyle we were designed to live, especially in the developed western world. Lifestyles that can feel increasingly alienating and isolating with the rapid advancement of technology and the role it plays in our lives. With my piece ‘Introspection’, I aim to bring awareness to the process of analysing our current circumstances, and how we use this newly acquired knowledge to our advantage or detriment.”

The local artist has also showcased his work at other exhibitions nationally and internationally, including last year’s London Art Biennale, Art Source 2023, and his first solo exhibition, ‘Humble Beginnings’, held at The People’s Museum of Limerick this past March.
