A FURTHER arrest has been made in connection with this week’s major drug and cash seizures in Limerick City.
Gardaí have said that a man in his late teens was arrested in Limerick today (Friday August 2) in connection with seizures of drugs and cash worth almost €700,000 in the St Mary’s Park area of Limerick City on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.
A haul of cannabis, heroin, and cocaine worth an estimated €420,000, along with €250,000 in cash, was seized by Gardaí operating from the Mayorstone Crime Unit, in a series of raids across July 31 and August 1.
As part of Operation Tara – a nationwide anti-drugs campaign focusing on disrupting, dismantling, and prosecuting drug trafficking networks – Gardaí carried out a number of raids in the St Mary’s Park area of Limerick City across the past two days.
During a search under warrant at a number of homes in the St Mary Park area on Wednesday, Gardaí seized cannabis valued at around €100,000.
One man in his 30s has already been charged and was due to appear before a special sitting of Nenagh District Court today (Friday) in connetction with the raids, in which searches were carried out by the Garda Armed Support Unit and the Garda Dog Unit.
On Thursday (August 1), in a follow up search, €100,000 worth of suspected cocaine and €250,000 in cash was also seized.
The same day, a further search carried out by Gardaí saw the seizure of quantities of cocaine, cannabis, and heroin “with a combined value exceeding €220,000”.
A woman in her 50s was arrested in connection with these raids.
Today (Friday), Gardaí confirmed that a man in his late teens has been arrested in connection with the seizures and is currently detained at a Garda station in County Limerick.
According to Gardaí, the teen can be held for up to seven days.
All raids and subsequent seizures were carried out in the St Mary’s Park area of Limerick City.
