GARDAÍ put a major dent in the coffers of drug gangs after seizing more than €600,000 in drugs and cash in Limerick City.
A haul of cannabis, heroin, and cocaine worth an estimated €420,000, along with €250,000 in cash, was seized by Gardaí operating from the Mayorstone Crime Unit, in a series of raids across today (August 1) and yesterday (July 31).
As part of Operation Tara – a nationwide anti-drugs campaign focusing on disrupting, dismantling, and prosecuting drug trafficking networks – Gardaí carried out a number of raids in the St Mary’s Park area of Limerick City across the past two days.
During a search under warrant at a number of homes in the area on Wednesday, Gardaí seized cannabis valued at around €100,000.
One man was arrested in connection with Wednesday’s raids, with searches assisted by the Garda Armed Support Unit and the Garda Dog Unit.
This Thursday, in a follow up search, €100,000 worth of suspected cocaine and €250,000 in cash was also seized.
Also on Thursday, a further search carried out by Gardaí saw the seizure of quantities of cocaine, cannabis, and heroin “with a combined value exceeding €220,000”.
A woman in her 50s was arrested in connection with these raids.
Both the man and the woman were being held at a Garda station in Limerick.
All raids and subsequent seizures were carried out in the St Mary’s Park area of Limerick City.
Gardaí say investigations into the seizures are ongoing, and that all drugs seized have been sent to Forensic Science Ireland for further analysis.
