Limerick Bangladeshi community hold demonstration amid violent unrest at home

Members of the local Bangladeshi community held the demonstration.

A DEMONSTRATION was held in the heart of Limerick City this past weekend by members of the local Bangladeshi community in solidarity with those killed amid violent unrest at home.

Organisers said the peaceful demonstration was to stand in solidarity with students in Bangladesh who have been rallying at home against what they claim is a discriminatory job quota system in the Bangladeshi civil service.

Violence in recent days in Bangladesh has left 205 dead.

At least half a dozen leaders in the Bangladeshi Students Against Discrimination movement are reported to have been amongst thousands taken into police custody in the wake of the civil unrest in the South Asian country.
