DROMBEG Rio, trained by teenager Evan McAuliffe of Athlacca, is among those advanced to the quarter-finals of the Willwego.com Irish St. Leger at Limerick Greyhound Stadium.

Now unbeaten in two starts, Rio won his second round in 29.80.

The Pat Buckley of Doon trained Unanimouspanther was the fastest heat winner.

This talented son of Droopys Sydney – Mystical Moll was paw-perfect from start to finish as he cruised to victory in a cracking time of 29.24, just half a length off the track record.

Sarah Kinsella of Greyhound Racing Ireland said: “There were a few track records broken around the country on Saturday night and Unanimouspanther rattled the 550 in Limerick. It was a stunning display which now makes him the one to beat in this classic.

“Paul Hennessy (Kilkenny) and Owen McKenna (Tipperary) had a good night with their qualifiers while Miami King is proving very strong for Garry Dempsey (Wexford). It’s a brilliant competition with defending champion Clonbrien Treaty still going well.”

Also still in the mix is Con and Annie Kirby Champion Knockeen Dazzler.

The quarter-finals take place at Greenpark on Saturday next, 7.40pm onwards.
