Update: Two seriously injured after road crash in County Limerick

A WOMAN and a man were being treated for critical and serious injuries in hospital after their car hit a wall and a pole before landing upturned on its roof earlier tonight (Tuesday).

The single-vehicle crash occurred at Lisnagry, Drominboy, on the Limerick-Newport Road, in east County Limerick.

Emergency services were alerted at 8:28pm that a vehicle, believed to be a Mercedes car, was upturned on its roof.

HSE paramedics and firefighters attached to Limerick City, Killaloe in County Clare, as well as Nenagh and Newport in County Tipperary, were dispatched to the scene.

Gardaí closed the stretch of road and diversions were put in place.

The male driver and female passenger were treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick.

The female was trapped in the wreckage and had to be freed by fire crews using specialist cutting equipment.

Sources said the female was in a “critical condition” in hospital, while the male was described as being in a “serious condition”.

A Garda spokesman said: “Shortly after 8:30pm this evening Gardaí and emergency services responded to a single-vehicle collision in Lisnagary, County Limerick.“

“Two individuals, the occupants of the car, have been removed from the scene by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick with serious injuries.

“The scene is preserved, and local diversions are in place.”
