Almost 900 new homes underway in Limerick in first six months of this year

THE construction of over 880 new homes in Limerick has commenced in the first six months of this year, according to new figures from the Department of Housing.

887 homes commenced construction so far this year, surpassing the total number for all of 2023, the Department said.

795 homes were built in Limerick in the 12 months of 2023.

Limerick Fianna Fáil Minister Niall Collins welcomed the figures, saying that they showed the government’s Housing For All plan is delivering houses nationwide.

“I’m delighted to receive confirmation from my party colleague, Minister of Housing Darragh O’Brien, that 887 new homes were commenced in the first six months of this year, surpassing the total figure for all of 2023,” the Limerick Minister of State said.

“It further demonstrates that Housing for All is working.”

Minister Collins stated that “Fianna Fáil in government is committed to increasing housing supply and making homes more affordable”.

Nationwide, according to the new Housing Department report, 33,784 homes commenced construction during the first six months of this year, double the number of the 15,561 homes that were built nationwide during the first half of 2023.
