GARDAÍ this Monday (July 22) confirmed they are hunting a gunman who was travelling in a Nissan Maxima after firing at least one shot from a firearm at a parked car in a suburb outside Limerick City.

A Garda spokesman said the gun attack took place on Hyde Avenue, Ballinacurra Weston, at around 7.45pm this past Sunday night (July 21).

The Garda Press Office told the Limerick Post that it did not have any details around the type of firearm used, nor did it know if any persons were in the parked car at the time of the drive-by shooting.

It is unclear if the shooting is linked to several other gun attacks which have happened in the Hyde Road area over the past 12 months, which were understood to have been part of a localised dispute between rival parties.

Gardaí confirmed no one was injured in Sunday night’s shooting.

Appealing for witnesses, the Garda Press Office said “the suspected offender fled the scene in a silver Nissan Maxima”.

“Gardaí are appealing to anyone with any information on this incident to contact them. In particular, anyone who was in the Hyde Avenue or Ballinacurra Weston area between 7.30pm and 8pm, and any road users who may have camera footage (including dashcam) are asked to make this available,” it added.

There have been no immediate arrests and “investigations are ongoing”.

Investigating Gardaí can be contacted at Roxboro Road Garda Station on 061 214 340, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
