Leger up and running in Limerick

DOON’S Pat Buckley accounted for a couple of quality winners in the opening round heats of the Willwego.com Irish Greyhound St Leger at Greenpark.

Most impressive was his recent Produce Stakes winner (at Clonmel) Unaminous Panther, which clocked the fastest time of the night, 29.34.

Panther is owned by Ciaran O’Sullivan of Charleville.

Buckley, a three-time winner of the Classic, also scored with Superfast Gorden (29.44).

Athlacca teenager Evan McAuliffe was in the winners’ enclosure with Drombeg Rio (29.65).

Other notable wins came through Airfield Katie for owner Fergus Walsh of Askeaton and Oscar the Grouch, the property of a jovial syndicate of Knocklong.

Also qualified are defending champion Clonbrien Treaty, owned by the Murphy family of Athlacca, and Kirby winner Knockeen Dazzler for young Kerry trainer Daniel O’Rahilly.
