FOR the first time ever, Limerick are All-Ireland Under16 camogie champions. It follows a thrilling 0-10 to 0-9 defeat of fancied Galway at Kilkenny’s Nowlan Park.
The winning score came from Rachel O’Grady of Patrickswell in lost time. Only moments earlier, Limerick had drawn level through a precious contribution by Caitlin Ryan (Na Piarsaigh).
Diarmuid Ryan’s Limerick had led 0-6 to 0-3 at half-time, but, as anticipated, wind-assisted Galway came back into the reckoning in the closing period.
There were memorable scenes as the inspirational captain Ornagh Barrett (Knockaderry) accepted the cup.
