O’Sullivan calls for public consultation on Caherdavin playground

FINE Gael councillor Olivia O’Sullivan this past week called for a public consultation on the Caherdavin playground.

Cllr O’Sullivan believes it is about time to settle the discussion on the location for the long-awaited new playground once and for all.

“I have raised €410,000 for the project, with the first €100,000 coming from the Northside councillors who supported my proposal, and the further €310,000 coming in increments on my request from the council’s Development Fund. This funding is ring-fenced and we are ready for the next stage,” she told the Limerick Post.

Cllr O’Sullivan said the council selected a site off the Ennis Road in June 2023, but this has proved to be unsuitable on further assessment. There have been several sites examined and discussed, including the green area at the Caherdavin Community Centre, so now it is time to finalise and get on with the development of the new playground.

The City North representative pointed out that her electoral area has a growing population badly in need of additional recreational amenities.

“There is too much pressure on Shelbourne Park Playground currently, we need to move now without further delay to get the new playground underway.

“I have requested a public consultation event so the people of Caherdavin and the surrounding areas can have their say. I did ask that it would not take place until families have returned from summer holidays, so I hope to see it scheduled at the end of August or early September,” she explained.
