THIEVES who stole a car in County Limerick and were involved in ramming a Garda car have shared video footage on social media.

Local sources have said such taunting video posts are “making an absolute mockery of the Gardaí”.

Earlier this month, two cars were stolen from a house in Croom, with one being located in the village of Kilmallock at approximately 7.30am on July 10 driving dangerously.

The stolen car, believed to be a Mercedes, was then involved in ramming a Garda car.

The car fled the scene and was later found abandoned at a different location.

No injuries were reported in the collision, but it is understood that the two Garda members were left shaken after the incident.

Now, footage shared with the Limerick Post shows a navy Mercedes being driven at speed through Limerick, with the driver speeding down a narrow country road in the footage, dangerously overtaking other vehicles on the road.

A photo of a local media article relating to the thefts also features in the video.

A local source told the Limerick Post that the people involved are making a “mockery” of Gardaí.

“Quite honestly, they are making an absolute mockery of the Gardaí by doing this and giving them the two fingers,” the source said.

Gardaí said they couldn’t comment on the footage that has been shared on social media.

“An Garda Síochána does not comment on third-party material and videos circulating online, the contents of which cannot be verified,” they said in a statement.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing and the Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

“Any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage (including dashcam) and were travelling in the Croom area between 3.30am and 4.30am and the Kilmallock area between 7.00am and 8.00am (on July 10) are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí,” a statement from An Garda Síochána said.

Anyone with any information which may help in the ongoing investigation is asked to contact Bruff Garda Station on 061 382 940, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
