Brazilian day to bring swinging samba sounds to Shannonside

The Hunt Museum Garden will once again be filled with colour for Brazilian day.

AS LIMERICK’S day of celebration of Brazilian culture approaches, a full programme of events has been released.

Brazilian Day in Limerick takes place this coming Saturday (July 20), and aims to highlight and celebrate the rich and vibrant culture of Brazil.

The now annual event is expected to attract hundreds from Limerick’s thriving Brazilian and South American communities for a day full of inter-cultural celebration and camaraderie.

“Brazilian Day in Limerick is a vibrant celebration that brings the colours, rhythms, and flavours of Brazil to the heart of Ireland. This annual event, now in its second year, is a testament to the rich cultural tapestry of Brazil and its deep-rooted presence in Limerick’s diverse community,” a spokeswoman for the festival said.

The day-long celebration of Brazilian culture takes place in the Hunt Museum Garden and gets underway from 10am, kicking off with a short opening ceremony, followed by a conditioning class with Limerick’s own Sweat Box fitness studio.

After that, there will be a live concert from Limerick-based Brazilian singer Matheus Dorber, followed by a panel discussion on living abroad and the challenges and opportunities faced by the large Brazilian and South American communities in Limerick on their move Shannonside.

At 12.15pm, there will be a town hall meeting with the Brazilian Ambassador to Ireland, while at 1pm traditional Brazilian samba performances will fill the streets with colour and traditional sounds.

A capoeira dance performance, a Brazilian DJ set, and a Pagodin live concert will also take place throughout the day.

Through music performances, cultural displays, and interactive activities, Limerick’s Brazilian Day aims to create an immersive experience where attendees can not only enjoy but also learn about the traditions and customs that define Brazil.

“(Brazilian Day) serves as a gathering place for people from all backgrounds to come together, celebrate diversity, and strengthen bonds within the Brazilian and Irish communities. This event is more than just a festival; it’s a celebration of identity, heritage, and the enduring spirit of togetherness,” the festival spokeswoman said.

The day-long festival is offered by the Embassy of Brazil, the Hunt Museum, and Limerick City and County Council.
