LOCAL hostelries in Limerick scooped almost 20 nominations between them in the 2024 Bar of the Year Awards.
Bars and pubs across Limerick were nominated 19 times for the annual awards, with Mother Mac’s topping the table locally with five nominations alone.
The High Street local was nominated in the Tourist Bar of the Year, Innovative Bar of the Year, Traditional Bar of the Year, Whiskey Bar of the Year, and Craft Bar of the Year categories.
Also among the Limerick nominations were the Treaty City Brewery for Visitor Attraction of the Year, The Locke Bar in the Tourist Bar of the Year category, The Old Quarter Gastropub in the City Bar of the Year category, and the Treehouse at Fitzgerald’s Woodlands House Hotel in the Innovative Bar of the Year.
Whelan’s Bar in Newcastle West was nominated for Local Bar of the Year, with Collins Bar Dooradoyle, Jerry Flannery’s and 1314, and the Old Quarter Gastropub all being shortlisted as the Best Bar to Watch the Match in.
The Treehouse at Fitzgerald’s Woodlands House Hotel was nominated in the Best Outside Space of the Year award, with Aundrea Behan from Off the Bone Gastropub being nominated in the Bar Manager of the Year category.
In the Gin Bar of the Year category, House Limerick were shortlisted, with Treaty City Brewery getting nominated in the Craft Bar of the Year category.
Two Limerick establishments were nominated for the Outstanding Customer Service award, The Top House in Annacotty and the Old Quarter Gastropub.
This year’s awards received over 700 entries, the highest amount ever received, the organisers said.
All of the Limerick pubs and bars that were nominated will also be up for consideration for the People’s Choice award, which will be chosen by the general public.
The awards will be announced at a gala dinner in Dublin’s Clayton Hotel on August 19.
