FINE Gael councillor and Deputy Mayor of Limerick, Dan McSweeney, met with Taoiseach Simon Harris to discuss priority areas that he and other councillors hope to deliver on over the next five years.

Cllr McSweeney was among eight Fine Gael councillors currently serving as chairpersons and/or mayors in local authorities nationwide that met with the Taoiseach in Government Buildings last week.

The meeting was also attended by Fine Gael frontbench and junior ministers.

Cllr McSweeney, who was elected the first ever Priomh Chomhairleoir of Limerick City and County Council, said he was ” honoured to have been appointed to this role last month and look forward to constructive engagement with all stakeholders to deliver on behalf of the people of Limerick during the course of my one year term”.

“As a 25-year-old man, I’m well aware of the challenges facing young people in securing affordable accommodation and for that reason housing is a priority issue for me.”

Cllr McSweeney said that “the ramping up of the supply of housing nationwide by government has been extremely positive. However, I want to see a substantial increase in the delivery of affordable purchase housing in Limerick so that more people of my generation can realise their dream of having a home.”

Following the meeting, the Fine Gael councillor said he wanted ” to thank Taoiseach Simon Harris for taking the time to meet us as a group and to hear what councillors intend to deliver on behalf of the people of Limerick City and County”.

“It was also very positive that we got to engage with senior Fine Gael Ministers and to raise matters relative to their portfolios.”
