Over 2,500 Ukrainian refugees now living in Limerick City

Approximately 2,500 people trying to escape the war have found a home in Limerick City.

SINCE the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, 107,406 Ukrainian people have fled to Ireland in search of shelter and sanctuary.

Of that number, approximately 2,500 people trying to escape the war have found a home in Limerick City.

Just over 2,000 have taken up shelter in nearby Galway City.

The highest concentration of Limerick’s Ukrainian population, around 12 per cent, are located in Limerick City North, which has a ratio of around two Ukrainian people to every 1,000 others.

A great number of those arriving to the Treaty City, according to the recent CSO statistics for June 2024, were women, making up 46 per cent of the total, while men made up 23 per cent.

A further 30 per cent were people under the age of 20.
