FAMILIES, groups, and individuals are being invited by Limerick City and County Council to do Limerick Greenway their way – walk, run, cycle, or wheel – this summer for a unique outdoor experience.

Limerick Greenway, a scenic 400kilometre off-road experience, weaves through the beautiful West Limerick countryside, boasting rich heritage, biodiversity, and the best local hospitality along the way.

Visitors can start their journey at Rathkeale and do the full 40km route or join in at any of the entry points located along the way.

Visitors also have the option to seamlessly extend their journey by 10km from Abbeyfeale across the Limerick-Kerry border and onto Listowel, thanks to the connection with the Kingdom of Kerry Greenways.

Limerick Greenway was designed with mobility in mind and is safe and suitable for users of all abilities and ages to enjoy. With thoughtfully designed pathways and facilities, Limerick Greenway embraces diversity, creating an environment where families, friends, and solo adventurers can connect with nature.

Since its opening, Limerick Greenway has recorded more than 1.5 million visits (as of January 2024) and will continue to enhance visitor facilities throughout 2024.

The Greenway follows the old Limerick to Kerry railway line through rural West Limerick landscape. Five visitor hubs are located at Rathkeale, Ardagh, Newcastle West, Barnagh, and Abbeyfeale.

Limerick City and County Council said it “continues to enhance visitor facilities on Limerick Greenway, as more and more people are choosing the recreational outdoor amenity along the old Limerick to Kerry railway line as their go-to activity”.
