A LIMERICK-based carer has been announced as a regional winner of the Comfort Keepers Homecare Carer of the Year Awards 2024 at a special day of celebrations.

Majella Nunan received the prestigious accolade for her outstanding client care, passion, and dedication to her work in the community.

She received the award at an event held at Comfort Keepers’ Limerick branch office attended by family, friends, and her Comfort Keepers colleagues, also marking the company’s National Day of Joy to encourage joy and elevate the human spirit in everyday moments.

Majella was chosen as one of 11 branch finalists from around the country. Majella, from Rhebogue, and originally from Kilmallock, lives with her partner, Patrick, and daughter, Nicole, and has been a carer for eight years.

Collette Gleeson, Comfort Keepers managing director, who also celebrated 10 years of service at the event, said: “Our annual awards and our Day of Joy is a really important opportunity for us to honour the hard work of members of our teams.”

She added that award winner Majella “plays a key role in our Limerick-based team”.

“Majella exemplifies extraordinary dedication and a boundless willingness to support her clients. She is a fabulous ambassador for Comfort Keepers and an incredibly deserving regional winner for our Carer of the Year awards.”

On receiving the accolade, Majella said she was “truly honoured and proud of this recognition”.

“I give 100 per cent on my client visits and I have developed a great trust with them, so they can share their concerns with me.

“I love helping them to feel peace of mind that they are being looked after in their own homes. I try to bring them some joy too – I once had a client that I would sing to after learning all the songs that he loved.

“Making a positive impact on my clients’ lives is the most rewarding part of being a carer.”
