THERE were as many as 90 prisoner-on-prisoner attacks in Limerick Prison last year.
That’s according to figures published this week in the Irish Mirror.
The numbers leave the Limerick prison complex a long way behind the Irish prison facility reporting the highest number of prisoner-on-prisoner attacks last year, Cloverhill Prison, in Cherry Orchard, Dublin, which saw 185 recorded assaults.
671 such attacks were reported in prisons throughout 2023, with Cork Prison seeing the second largest number of prisoner-on-prisoner attacks (112), followed by the Midlands Prison in Portlaoise (92), and Limerick Prison on 90.
17 assaults were reported at the female Dochas Centre in Dublin.
