Limerick TD’s intervention to get families into homes

Limerick Fianna Fáil TD Willie O'Dea

FIANNA Fáil TD Willie O’Dea has intervened with the builder of 38 social properties at Churchfield, Southill, in order to expedite their delivery to individuals already allocated these properties since April.

The development consists of a mixture of 38 two and three-storey residential housing blocks with two separate external green areas.

The project is the second phase of an overall masterplan that consists of 80 BER A rated energy efficient homes.

Phase One comprised 42 units of an overall housing scheme.

Speaking to the Limerick Post this week, Deputy O’Dea said that many of the individuals who were allocated properties have been in touch with him to express their frustration at the delay in getting the keys.

“Jada Construction were awarded the contract to construct 38 BER A rated Social dwellings at Churchfield, Southill, on behalf of Limerick City and County Council in 2022. This was phase two of an 80 unit housing scheme. They have fully completed all the construction and the properties are now ready for people to move into,” the Limerick politician explained.

“When I queried the situation with the Council, they said they were waiting on some paperwork from Jada Construction. I engaged with the company and received a commitment that all outstanding paperwork would be submitted to the Council within two weeks.

“This is a good result for the new tenants of these properties, but they shouldn’t have had to wait all these weeks to get keys for properties that are already completed to a very high standard.”
