HOLDERS Newcastle West overcame Fr. Casey’s in the opening round of the Limerick Senior Football Championship.

At Tournafulla, NCW emerged 1-12 to 1-9 winners, with the goal for the Magpies arriving through the ageless Mike McMahon.

Elsewhere, county pair Peter Nash and Cathal Downes kicked five points apiece for Kildimo/Pallaskenry in a 1-13 to 3-6 win for Kildimo/Pallaskenry over Ballysteen at Seán Finn Park, Rathkeale.

Also in Group Two, Conor McGrath’s goal separated Galtee Gaels and Oola, 1-9 to 0-9,  in Knocklong.

In Group One, fancied Adare defeated Monaleen 1-13 to 2-4 at Mungret. A lovely goal from Joe Sweeney early in the second-half swung the contest in favour of Adare.

In Claughaun, Mungret/St. Paul’s eased to a 2-14 to 0-3 win over Na Piarsaigh. Shane Barry (1-4) and John Hutton (0-5) impressed for the winners.

Elsewhere, St. Kieran’s easily disposed of Ballylanders (3-11 to 0-8) at Carroll Park, Ballyagran.

Eoin McEnery (2) and Michael Long claimed the goals.
