THE Shannon waters beside the iconic King John’s Castle will once again be the setting for the much-anticipated Thomond Swim this coming Sunday (June 29) from 12 noon.

Organised by the Limerick Master’s Swimming Club, this prestigious open-water swimming event has a rich history in the city and promises participants an unforgettable experience each year.

The Thomond Swim, now in its 20th year in “modern times”, has become a beloved annual tradition for Limerick locals and visitors alike.

Originating in the early 1950s, the event was inspired by the city’s deep-rooted connection to the River Shannon, which has been a lifeline for Limerick throughout history.

Swimmers from near and far are drawn to this unique opportunity to partake in a challenging yet rewarding swim, organisers say, immersing themselves in the cultural heritage and natural beauty that Limerick has to offer.
