More trad than pop, more banjo bop than brit pop

The Whistlin’ Donkeys are on their way to Limerick on Friday August 30.

The Gaelic Grounds will play host to the biggest line up of trad and Irish acts including George Murphy & Rising Sons, All Folk’d Up, The Highstool Prophets, Fieldsy and headline act The Whistlin’ Donkeys! 

This year’s headliner at Gaelic sounds  The Whistlin’ Donkeys return to Limerick for first time in five years with their unique blend of trad and celtic rock.  

This Tyrone sextet have had a stellar rise from their hometown pub sessions to selling out Vicar Street and the RDS earlier this year, while managing to squeeze in back to back sold out tours of the USA and Australia. Expect to hear hits like ‘Bee’s Wing, ‘South Australia’ and of course ‘Hills of Donegal. 

Joining them at the Ennis road venue is one of the most exciting voices in Irish folk music, George Murphy & The Rising Sons. Fresh from a sold-out tour of the USA and Ireland, they will bring their perfect blend of Trad, Folk and Rock ‘n’ Roll to the stage, blending whistles, fiddles and banjos with electric guitars, bass and percussion. Music fans can will enjoy  a mix of the band’s original material as well as their unique and fresh stamp on old folk classics.

 All Folk’d Up have earned acclaim as one of the standout new wave bands on the Irish folk circuit. Their unique ability to reimagine old Irish folk and traditional songs, infusing them with a modern and up-tempo twist, has endeared them to fans. Audiences have come to expect bouncing melodies, enticing lyrical tales, vintage Folk-Rock sounds, and jaw-dropping banjo progressions.

With their versions of ‘This is the Life’ and ‘Dream’ currently all over the radio and Spotify, The High Stool Prophets have been blazing a trail on the Irish folk scene with a string of sold out shows, TV appearances and new music releases and have just sold out an extensive Irish and UK tour.

 Local hero James Mc Grath will open proceedings on the day
