TAOISEACH Simon Harris has spoken to Limerick’s new directly-elected mayor, John Moran, after his historic win at the polls.

The pair discussed the historical significance of Limerick being the first place in Ireland to directly elect a mayor with executive powers.

Harris also congratulated Moran on winning the election and noted the number of excellent candidates who had put themselves forward for the first contest for the office.

The Taoiseach has pledged his support in making the new post work and delivering for the people of Limerick city and county.

He also agreed to stay in close contact with Mayor Moran, who gave an overview of his priorities, and they both agreed to meet in person in the near future.
