AFTER a valiant battle in Limerick City North area, two returning councillors have passed the post at once.

Fianna Fáil’s Kieran O’Hanlon and Fine Gael’s Olivia O’Sullivan have both been elected on the 12th count.

For the Fine Gael woman, her re-election means she can address “unfinished business”, she told the Limerick Post, and looks forward to getting back to work.

Speaking to reporters after her election, Cllr O’Sullivan said that she was “elated and tired” after the campaign and the weekend of counting.

“I feel very humbled to see all the votes coming in. My first preference vote went up by 30 per cent, that’s a really big deal to me, to think that all those people put number one beside my name.

“It’s hugely humbling. I’m very grateful. I’m very grateful to all my team that put so much in to my campaign over the last number of weeks and months,” Cllr O’Sullivan continued.

“I had a lot of unfinished business, and I can’t wait to get back to work,” she said.

As for her celebration plans? Cllr O’Sullivan said she was off to watch the remainder of Limerick’s Munster Final clash against Clare.

Three seats remain in the City North district, one of the hardest to call races in the lot.
