THE LAST of the county districts has just announced its candidates to fill its last three seats.

The Cappamore-Kilmallock electoral area has elected Sinn Féin’s PJ Carey, along with Gregory Conway and Tommy O’Sullivan, both of Fine Gael.

All three candidates were returned without reaching the quota on this occasion.

The three join Brigid Teefy (IND), Eddie Ryan (IND), Noreen Stokes (FG), and Martin Ryan (FF).

Speaking to the Limerick Post after his re-election, PJ Carey said that he was “delighted” to be returned, and that the count process was a nerve-wracking one.

“I feel great. I was worried a little bit yesterday, I have to say, I have a lot of work done, and I have a great team around me, family and friends at all, but it was great,” Cllr Carey said.

That means that just the city areas of Limerick City North, East, and West remain with open seats as counting stretches into the night. The battle is especially fraught in City West, where a recount has just begun after a request from under-threat Michael MacCurtain (FG), who trails behind Independent Ireland’s Esther Aherne (formerly of Fianna Fáil).
