Limerick woman killed in dog attack to be laid to rest in coming days

A WOMAN who was mauled to death by her pet dogs on her birthday at her home in County Limerick will be laid to rest next week.

23-year-old Nicole Morey, originally from Bawnmore Avenue, Crossagalla, Limerick City, died following a terrifying dog attack at her home in Fedamore last Tuesday night (June 4).

When Gardaí arrived at the scene they encountered a number of aggressive dogs. Officers shot one of the dogs and restrained the other three animals.

Anti-animal cruelty groups have reported an increase in the incidence of dog attacks on people.

Last week, on Wednesday May 29, an eight-year-old Limerick boy, Jackson Flynn, sustained facial injuries requiring 30 stitches when he was mauled by a dog in the People’s Park.

On Thursday June 6, a woman was injured by a pit bull terrier in an attack in the back yard of her home in Cork. The dog was shot by armed Gardaí and euthanised by a local vet.

According to funeral arrangements announced Friday, Ms Morey’s remains will repose at Cross’s Funeral Home, Gerald Griffin Street, from 2pm to 4pm on Saturday June 8.

Ms Morey’s burial will take place at Mount St Oliver Cemetery following 11am requiem mass at Holy Family Church, Southill, on Monday June 10.

Ms Morey is pre-deceased by her grandparents Patrick and Marie, and is survived by her parents Lisa and Patrick, step-parents Joseph and Nicola, her sisters and brothers, extended family and friends.
